CONGRATULATIONS Newcastle Basketball juniors Chyra Evans and Kate Kingham, who were members of the gold medal-winning NSW Blue team at the Basketball Australia Under-20 National Championships held at Mackay this week.
NSW Blue defeated Victoria 76-63 in the final to complete the tournament unbeaten. Chyra was the tournament’s top scorer, averaging 18.8 points and 7.8 rebounds a game, and was later announced as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Newcastle’s Dhana Davidson was NSW Blue team manager. NSW White, including Newcastle juniors Sarah Cooper and Amelia Raidaveta, finished fourth.
NSW Blue finished seventh in the men’s tournament, and Newcastle’s Evan Kilminster (16.2 points per game) was the team’s leading scorer and seventh overall for the tournament. NSW White, including Newcastle’s Michael Walker, finished 10th.
